Investment Management in Wall, NJ

We choose, hold and adjust the investments in your accounts so they match your goals and your time frame. One person builds the portfolio, places the trades and explains every change, so you always know what you own and why.

What investment management covers

Investment management is the ongoing work of running a portfolio. It covers the asset allocation (the split between stocks, bonds and cash), the specific funds or securities that fill each part of that split, and the decisions about when to rebalance and which shares to sell.

We are Series 7 and SIE licensed, the registrations that allow us to buy and sell securities for clients. You work with one person from the first look at your statements through every trade and review. The person who knows why a position exists is the same person who picks up when you have a question.

It is the right call when your money sits in several accounts with no plan tying them together, or when you would rather not make every allocation decision yourself. If spending, insurance or estate questions need sorting first, our financial planning service may be the better place to begin.

What the work includes

A full map of what you own

We gather statements from every account: current and old 401(k)s, IRAs and brokerage accounts. Each holding gets listed with its expense ratio, cost basis where available and how it overlaps with the rest. Many people find they own the same large-cap stocks through three different funds.

An allocation set by your timeline

The stock and bond mix comes from when you will need the money and how deep a decline you can sit through without selling. We write the target down so every later decision can be checked against it.

Rebalancing within set bands

Markets pull a portfolio away from its target. We rebalance when an asset class drifts outside a defined range, and we use new deposits or planned withdrawals to do it where we can, which cuts down on trades in taxable accounts.

Tax-aware placement and selling

Bond funds that pay taxable interest usually fit better inside an IRA or 401(k), while broad index funds often sit well in a taxable account. When we sell, we choose which tax lots to use and watch the wash-sale rule when harvesting losses. Bigger tax questions go to our tax management work.

Rollovers and transfers handled

Moving an old 401(k) into an IRA or consolidating brokerage accounts means transfer forms and a choice between moving shares in kind or as cash. We prepare the paperwork and track each transfer until it lands.

Reviews in plain language

The custodian sends your statements. We sit down with you to explain what changed, what we did and the reason behind it.

Signs your portfolio needs a manager

  • Accounts scattered across old jobs

Every employer change can leave another 401(k) behind. Spread across custodians, nobody is watching the total mix.

  • You cannot say what you own

If you know the account balances but not the funds inside them or what they cost, there is no way to tell whether they fit your goals.

  • The mix has not been touched in years

A portfolio set at 60 percent stocks and left alone through a long rally can drift well past 70 percent without anyone choosing that risk.

  • Too much in one stock

Company shares from an employee plan or a single inherited holding can grow into a large slice of your wealth. One bad quarter for that company then hits the whole portfolio.

  • Retirement is less than ten years away

A sharp drop just before or after withdrawals begin does more lasting damage than the same drop at age 40. That timing risk shapes how the portfolio should look, and it ties closely to retirement planning.

How we take on your portfolio

  1. 1

    Introductory meeting

We meet at our office in Wall or by phone or video. You tell us your goals, your time frame and which accounts you have. Nothing gets moved at this stage.

  2. 2

    Statement review and written proposal

We go through your holdings line by line and put our findings in writing: costs, overlap, the allocation we recommend and exactly how we are paid.

  3. 3

    Transfers and positioning

Once you agree, we handle the transfer paperwork and build the portfolio. In taxable accounts we may phase the changes over time to keep capital gains under control.

  4. 4

    Ongoing monitoring and reviews

We watch the allocation, rebalance when it drifts and meet with you on a regular schedule. Between reviews, you call the same person who manages the account.

What affects the cost

The cost depends on how much we manage, how complicated the accounts are and how the investments themselves are priced. Before you move anything, we explain in writing how we are compensated and walk through every fee you will pay, ours and the funds' alike.

Amount under management
The size of the portfolio is the main driver of what management costs. We show you how that applies to your accounts at the proposal stage.
Number and type of accounts
Several taxable accounts, IRAs, Roth IRAs and trusts each need their own tracking and tax handling. More accounts means more coordination.
Fund expenses inside the portfolio
Every mutual fund and ETF carries its own expense ratio, and some share classes cost more than others for the same strategy. We point out those costs in your current holdings and in anything we recommend.
Transfer and closing fees
Some custodians charge to close an account or move it out. We check those before starting a transfer so they are not a surprise.
Taxes on repositioning
Selling appreciated shares in a taxable account can create capital gains. It is not a fee, but it is a real cost, and we plan the pace of changes around it.

Investment management questions

Something not covered here? (732) 696-7829

Do I have to move every account to you?

No. Some clients start with one IRA and keep the rest where it is. We still look at the whole picture so the accounts we manage complement the ones we do not.

Can you promise my portfolio will go up?

No honest advisor can. What we can do is set an allocation that fits your time frame, keep costs visible and stop the mix from drifting into risk you never chose. Markets will still have down years.

Who do I talk to when I have a question?

The same person who manages your portfolio. You will not be passed between a sales rep, a trader and a service desk. If a question touches insurance or estate matters, that person coordinates it for you.

Do I need to come to the office?

Not unless you want to. We meet at our office in Wall, and clients from Manasquan, Howell and other nearby towns often prefer phone or video for regular reviews.

How often do you review my portfolio?

We monitor the allocation continuously against its rebalancing bands and meet with you on a set schedule. A life change such as a new job, an inheritance or a retirement date moving closer is a reason to meet sooner.

See what your accounts are really doing

An introductory meeting is where we look at what you hold and talk through your goals. Bring recent statements if you have them, and we will walk through them together.
